University of Auckland Innovation Institute China established

Profile

The University of Auckland’s knowledge transfer company Auckland UniServices Ltd, has established a world-class institute for research and innovation in Hangzhou, China.  The University of Auckland Innovation Institute China (UAIIC) will provide unprecedented access to an extensive range of networks and research opportunities in China.

“The Institute aims to develop stronger relationships in China with local and central government, Chinese universities and research institutes, Chinese companies and international companies with a presence in China.” says Lisbeth Jacobs, General Manager International at UniServices. “It will also offer a safe pathway for New Zealand and international clients with a desire to undertake research and development in China in collaboration with the University of Auckland.”

Hangzhou is one of China’s leading innovation and technology hubs and is home to the research and development centres of leading companies like Siemens, Abbott, Pfizer, Novartis, Bayer, Eli Lilly, Merck, Huawei and ABB.  It is the optimal location to showcase New Zealand as a world-class provider of technological products and services.

The Institute will offer meeting rooms, conference facilities and closed office areas which can be hired for client meetings, seminars, functions or as a workspace on an ad-hoc basis or under a long term co-location agreement. The Institute’s facilities will be available in mid-2017.

“Both Auckland UniServices and the University of Auckland have extensive relationships and collaborations in China, and we look forward to the outstanding research and commercialisation work we will do together,” says UniServices CEO Andy Shenk.

“The University of Auckland and Auckland UniServices support economic growth locally and internationally through innovation and entrepreneurship, creating quality jobs and high-value businesses, producing graduates and spin-out companies that contribute to and strengthen our economy and society, to the benefit of all. The establishment of the University of Auckland Innovation Institute China is an example of our commitment to achieving these goals.”
